Egypt Keeps Fuel Prices Unchanged, With Gasoline 95 Staying at 24 Pounds a Litre
Egypt’s fuel prices remain unchanged, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said on Sunday, adding that the committee that oversees the automatic pricing mechanism for petroleum products has not met and has issued no decision or recommendation on prices. That leaves gasoline 95 at 24 Egyptian pounds a litre and diesel at 20.5 pounds, the levels in force since 10 March 2026, 208 days before Sunday’s statement on our calculation.
The pricing committee has not met
The statement said price lists circulating on social media as new prices about to be applied are incorrect and rest on no official decision, and that any change will be announced officially. It renewed an earlier denial issued on 24 September. It also said butane supplies are running normally: refineries are producing and pumping the product as usual, bulk gas stocks for filling cylinders are available at filling plants working at full capacity, and cylinders are being distributed across the governorates with no sign of a shortfall.

Egyptian pounds. Decision of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources effective 01:00 GMT on 10 March 2026; percentage changes are our calculation.
Every liquid fuel rose by the same 3 pounds a litre in March, so the percentage increase was larger on the cheaper grades: 14.3 percent on gasoline 95 against 16.9 percent on gasoline 80 and 17.1 percent on diesel, on our calculation. The March decision attributed the change to exceptional conditions in global energy markets, citing higher import and production costs, supply chain disruption and higher shipping and insurance costs.
Prices since October 2025
Before March, prices were last changed on 17 October 2025, when gasoline 95 rose to 21 pounds from 19 and diesel to 17.5 pounds from 15.5. Across the two decisions, gasoline 95 is up 26.3 percent, gasoline 92 is up 29.0 percent, gasoline 80 is up 31.7 percent and diesel is up 32.3 percent, while vehicle gas has risen to 13 pounds a cubic metre from 7, an increase of 85.7 percent, on our calculation, against bases before October 2025 of 19, 17.25, 15.75, 15.5 and 7 pounds. The October 2025 decision set a freeze of at least a year; the March adjustment, 144 days later on our calculation, was made under the exceptional global conditions the March decision cited.
Why it matters: Sunday’s statement keeps pump prices for motorists, transport operators and households at their March levels into October, and with the committee yet to meet, no change has been decided. The confirmation that butane cylinders are being produced, filled and distributed normally addresses the other household concern raised on social media.
Outlook: any change to fuel prices will be announced officially once the pricing committee meets; no meeting date has been given.
