Kuwait Inflation Eased to 2.19 Percent in June 2026 With Consumer Prices Little Changed on the Month
Consumer price inflation in Kuwait was 2.19 percent in June 2026 compared with a year earlier, easing from 2.49 percent in May, a decline of about 0.30 of a percentage point, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau released on 20 July 2026. The consumer price index was little changed from the previous month at 139.9 points. The moderation left Kuwait with one of the lower inflation rates in the region.
The largest annual increases came from miscellaneous goods and services, up about 5.8 percent, and food and beverages, up about 5.55 percent, followed by transport, up about 4.83 percent. Smaller increases were recorded in recreation and culture, household furnishings, education and housing services, the last of which rose only marginally on the year.
Why it matters: Inflation shapes household purchasing power and the backdrop for monetary policy, and a contained and easing rate, with prices broadly flat on the month, is a reassuring signal for Kuwait. With the dinar managed against a currency basket, price stability supports the central bank’s room to calibrate policy, and a moderate inflation reading is consistent with a steady domestic demand picture.
Outlook: The direction of food and transport prices, which drove the June reading, will be the main influence on inflation in the months ahead, alongside global commodity costs. Barring a fresh supply shock, inflation of around 2 percent leaves Kuwait in a comfortable position relative to many regional and global peers.
