Egypt Connects 804,000 Homes to Natural Gas in Fiscal Year 2025/26
Egypt supplied natural gas to 804,000 housing units in the 2025/2026 fiscal year, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said at a press conference on 24 September. The expansion has replaced 14 million liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, taking the cumulative total to around 180 million, and 75,000 vehicles were converted to run on natural gas, raising the total to 679,340.
On our calculation, the 75,000 conversions in the fiscal year make up 11.0 percent of the 679,340 vehicles converted to date, and the latest 6.1 billion pounds is 19.8 percent of cumulative transmission investment.

Summer gas demand rises 12.7 percent
Average gas consumption rose to 7,281.56 million cubic feet a day in July and August 2026 from 6,458.36 million cubic feet a day in the winter months of October 2025 to March 2026, an increase of 12.7 percent. Gas used for electricity generation rose 41.6 percent, from an average of 109.15 million cubic metres a day in winter to 154.55 million cubic metres a day in summer. The number of fuel stations reached 4,109 in the fiscal year.
Fuel demand across two fiscal years
Average annual consumption over the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 fiscal years stood at around 17.77 billion litres of diesel, the highest of any product, 11.84 billion litres of gasoline, 287.5 million LPG cylinders and 6.94 million tons of fuel oil, the minister said.
Why it matters: Every home switched from bottled LPG to piped gas eases the cylinder distribution burden, and meeting a 41.6 percent rise in gas demand from power plants over the summer shows the network’s capacity to carry peak loads, on our reading.
Outlook: The ministry’s investment in main transmission lines, 30.806 billion pounds so far, sets the base for further connections in fiscal year 2026/2027, on our reading.
