Middle East Market Wrap 4 November: Dubai and Cairo Lead Eight Markets Higher
First published at 08:19 GMT; updated with the session’s closing edition at 13:01 GMT.
Dubai’s DFM General Index jumped 3.96% to lead eight of the nine Middle East markets higher on Wednesday, with Cairo’s EGX 30 up 2.83% in second place.
Only Abu Dhabi slipped, and by 0.02%. In The Edge’s reading, outside Dubai the session’s strength lay in its breadth rather than its size: risers far outnumbered fallers in Doha, Cairo and Riyadh on the exchanges’ own counts, while Dubai’s jump came with heavy trading in Emaar Properties.
Dubai leads as Doha extends its run
Dubai’s DFM General Index rose 3.96% to 6,040.74, its third straight gain. Emaar Properties climbed 4.41% on AED 1.02 billion of trading in its shares, and Emirates NBD gained 6.09%. Emaar Development rose 4.89% to AED 14.58 after Emaar Properties told the exchange early on Wednesday that it intends to offer AED 15 a share in cash, subject to its board’s approval, for the Emaar Development shares it does not already own. Doha’s QE Index added 2.81% to 9,884.17, its fourth straight gain, as 48 companies rose and 4 fell on QAR 820.8 million of trading. In Abu Dhabi, the FTSE ADX General Index ended 0.02% lower even as Aldar Properties climbed 6.49%.
Cairo and Riyadh climb
Cairo’s EGX 30 rose 2.83% to 50,650.18. The Tadawul All Share gained 1.65% to 10,038.89 as gainers beat decliners 242 to 24, on SAR 4.48 billion of trading. Muscat’s MSX 30 rose 0.54%, ending four straight declines, and Amman’s ASE index added 0.91%, ending three straight declines. Kuwait’s All-Share gained 0.56% on KD 62.7 million of trading, and Bahrain’s All Share rose 0.14%.
