Qatar Central Bank Issues 5 Billion Riyals of Government Ijarah Sukuk Across Two Tranches
Qatar Central Bank issued 5 billion riyals of Government Ijarah Sukuk on behalf of the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday, allocated across two tranches, the central bank said in a statement carried by the Qatar News Agency. Total bids reached 5.5 billion riyals, so the issue was covered about 1.1 times, on our calculation.
Two tranches at rising yields
The central bank allocated 2.5 billion riyals maturing on 16 January 2029 at a yield of 4.75 percent, and 2.5 billion riyals maturing on 24 August 2030 at a yield of 4.90 percent, both as tap issuances that reopen existing securities. The longer tranche therefore paid 15 basis points more than the shorter one, on our calculation.
| Tranche | Maturity | Amount, riyals | Yield |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tap issuance | 16 Jan 2029 | 2.5bn | 4.75% |
| Tap issuance | 24 Aug 2030 | 2.5bn | 4.90% |
Qatar Central Bank statement carried by the Qatar News Agency, 25 August 2026. Total bids received were 5.5 billion riyals against 5 billion allocated.
Demand covered the issue
Total bids of 5.5 billion riyals against the 5 billion allocated left the issue covered about 1.1 times, on our calculation, indicating demand modestly above the amount offered.
Why it matters: Regular sovereign sukuk issuance deepens Qatar’s local-currency debt market and gives investors a benchmark for Islamic fixed income across the curve. The yields, at 4.75 percent for the 2029 tranche and 4.90 percent for the 2030 tranche, are a read on riyal funding costs, and a bid total above the amount allocated points to steady domestic demand for government paper.
Outlook: The next scheduled issuances will show whether demand and yields hold at these levels, which in turn tracks the direction of regional and global interest rates and the government’s funding plans through the rest of the year.
