Aqaba Container Terminal Handles 107,803 TEUs in September, a Third Straight Monthly Record
Aqaba Container Terminal handled 107,803 twenty foot equivalent units in September, a monthly record for the third consecutive month and its third straight month above 100,000, while serving 53 vessels, the company said in a statement carried by Petra. September’s volume was 36.8 percent above the terminal’s average monthly throughput in the first half of 2026, on our calculation.

September against the first half monthly average
| Measure | September 2026 | H1 2026 average | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| TEUs handled | 107,803 | 78,780 | 36.8% |
| Truck gate movements | 45,901 | 31,488 | 45.8% |
September figures from the terminal’s statement of 4 October 2026. First half averages are our calculation from its 21 July 2026 release: 472,680 TEUs and 188,927 truck movements over six months.
Transit cargo of 14,712 TEUs accounted for 13.6 percent of September’s volume, and the terminal handled an average of about 2,034 TEUs per vessel served, on our calculation. The statement said records were also set in July and August but did not give those months’ volumes.
From a steady first half to a record quarter
In the first half of 2026 the terminal handled 472,680 TEUs against 468,062 a year earlier, a rise of 1.0 percent on our calculation, while truck gate movements rose to 188,927 from 182,490. Adding September’s 107,803 TEUs and more than 100,000 in each of July and August, whose volumes were not published, throughput for the first nine months exceeds 780,483 TEUs on our calculation.
Chief Executive José Rueda said three consecutive months of record volumes reflect Aqaba’s role in regional trade and the terminal’s capacity to accommodate growing cargo flows, and that the company is focusing on operational efficiency, connectivity, reliability and service standards.
Why it matters: the terminal’s volumes are a direct reading of the trade moving through Jordan’s sea gateway, and a quarter running at more than 100,000 TEUs a month, against a first half average of 78,780, points on our reading to a step up in the cargo moving through Aqaba, including transit goods for regional markets.
Outlook: October’s figures will show whether the run above 100,000 TEUs extends to a fourth month.
