Oman’s Electricity Production Rises 4.5 Percent Through July
Total electricity production in Oman climbed 4.5 percent year on year to 31,732.5 gigawatt hours in the 7 months through the end of July 2026, up from 30,354.6 gigawatt hours in the same period of 2025, according to preliminary data issued by Oman’s National Centre for Statistics and Information.
Muscat Leads a Mixed Regional Picture
Production rose sharply in Muscat governorate, up 197.4 percent, and grew more moderately across A’Dakhiliyah, up 41.8 percent, Dhofar, up 5.4 percent, Al Wusta, up 8 percent, and North and South Al Batinah and A’Dhahirah, each up 5.6 percent. Production fell in North and South A’Sharqiyah, down 15.1 percent, and in Musandam, down 2.8 percent, Oman News Agency reported, citing the same statistics centre. Net electricity production, which includes purchases by state-linked buyers, rose 4.9 percent to 30,866.7 gigawatt hours from 29,421.5 gigawatt hours.
Water Production Declined
Water production fell 3.2 percent to 287,484.3 thousand cubic metres in the same 7 months, down from 296,874.8 thousand cubic metres a year earlier, Oman News Agency said.
Why it matters: Rising electricity output points to continued growth in Oman’s power generation as the country pursues economic diversification away from oil, even as production patterns vary sharply by governorate.
Outlook: The National Centre for Statistics and Information’s formal monthly energy statistics bulletin for July 2026 had not yet been published as of this preliminary release; its most recent formal bulletin covered June 2026. The July bulletin, when published, will show whether the preliminary figures hold.
