Middle East Market Wrap 11 October: Cairo Returns With a 1.99 Percent Dip as Kuwait and Muscat Rise
Cairo returned to trading on Sunday with the region’s deepest move, the EGX 30 giving back 1.99 percent to 52,206.70 on its first session since 7 October, the exchange having been shut Thursday for the holiday, while five of the seven markets that traded closed lower. Boursa Kuwait’s All-Share Index rose 0.08 percent to 8,639.30, its first gain after Thursday’s decline, and Muscat’s MSX 30 added 0.25 percent to 7,852.106, higher in every session this month on the exchange’s own prints. Riyadh slipped 0.15 percent, Amman 0.23 percent and Bahrain 0.29 percent, and Doha’s QE Index fell 1.45 percent to 8,874.73, a fourth straight decline.
Cairo’s return lands against a 24.81 percent gain on the year and a day of Egyptian news
The EGX 30 closed at 52,206.70 on the exchange’s own display, 1.99 percent and 1,058.46 points below its 7 October close of 53,265.16 as published, with the exchange’s own page still showing the index 24.81 percent higher on the year. The dip arrived on a day of Egyptian releases this house covered separately: urban inflation eased to 13.9 percent in September, its biggest step down since August 2025, Banque du Caire set out a plan to float 30 percent on the EGX after first-half profit rose 15 percent, and the Cabinet reaffirmed the 2026/27 plan’s 5.4 percent growth target, all as published in our articles of 11 October; the pairing of the session and the releases is recorded without assigning a cause. Doha’s fourth straight decline took the QE Index 130.88 points lower to 8,874.73 on the exchange’s own ticker against the 9,005.61 we published on Thursday, Bahrain’s All Share eased to 1,890.12 against the 1,895.54 previous close on the exchange’s own panel, a fourth straight decline, and Amman’s ASE Index closed at 4,152.38, 0.23 percent below Thursday on our arithmetic against the exchange’s unsigned banner, a third straight decline. Tadawul’s All Share Index slipped 0.15 percent, or 15.54 points, to 10,360.74 on the exchange’s own header, a third straight decline, twice identical reads after the close. The Central Bank of Egypt’s average market rate for the dollar stood at 52.5291 buying and 52.6291 selling on Sunday’s page, the pound weaker than the 52.3378 and 52.4378 the same series showed on 7 October.
Kuwait and Muscat hold the green side as the dinar rate holds
Boursa Kuwait’s All-Share Index added 6.59 points to 8,639.30, with the Premier Market index up 0.05 percent, the Main Market index up 0.21 percent and the BK Main 50 up 0.13 percent on the exchange’s own divisions. Muscat’s MSX 30 added 19.857 points to 7,852.106 on the exchange’s own board, 21 gainers against 25 decliners with turnover of 65.5 million rials, and has now risen in every October session on its own prints. In Riyadh, the slip came on the day this house published Saudi Arabia’s August industry reading, non-oil industrial activity up 1.2 percent with electricity supply up 9.4 percent, as published in our article of 11 October from the statistics authority’s release. The Central Bank of Kuwait’s reference dollar rate stood unchanged at 0.30810/20 dinar on Sunday’s main indicators page, both value dates falling on 14 October.

Carried in full from our US Markets Wrap of Friday 9 October 2026, that region’s last session before the Gulf week opened, in the order published there, every index higher on the day.
Why it matters: The week opened on one row: Cairo’s return. A 1.99 percent dip after three days shut is a reopening print, not a trend, and it lands on an index the exchange’s own page still shows 24.81 percent higher on the year, on a day Egypt’s inflation reading eased to 13.9 percent and Banque du Caire set out an EGX float, pairings we record without assigning a cause. Around it the board stayed quiet: the red side outside Cairo and Doha held inside a third of a percent, Doha’s fourth straight decline matched Bahrain’s as the longest current losing run among Sunday’s seven markets, and Muscat’s unbroken October is now the longest current winning run among them, on our records. On our count across Sunday’s session, Muscat’s 0.25 percent rise was the day’s best row and Cairo’s 1.99 percent dip the deepest.
Outlook: This series returns tomorrow with Monday’s closes across the Gulf, Amman and Cairo. Seoul and Taipei return from their holidays in Monday’s Asia session while Tokyo is shut for Sports Day, the US bond market observes Columbus Day with equities trading, and Monday’s commodities wrap measures against Friday’s settlements of 104.72 dollars on Brent and 91.85 on WTI, as the session’s closing reports carried them. The International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook lands Tuesday, as published in our Week Ahead of 10 October.
